The FBI's Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) Directorate, Countermeasure Unit II, Infrastructure Protection Team has developed and is hosting a SF Bay area Regional Food and Agroterrorism Workshop on July 21-22, 2010 in Napa,CA.

The Workshop will develop the investigative, intelligence and coordination efforts currently underway by the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Forces in local field offices by allowing Federal, State and local law enforcement the opportunity to interact and cross-train on topics of basic food and agriculture security awareness with their counterparts with the Federal Drug Administration, United States Department of Agriculture and relevant food and agriculture security professionals.

The San Francisco Bay Area chapter of ISSA is offers its annual CISSP Study group. The CISSP Study group is a chapter-sponsored activity to support members in achieving certifications in the security industry. It is a review-style study group tracking to the 10 domains identified in the ISC2 CISSP guidelines. This 13-week series covers all the domains including a mock exam.

Sessions will be held on Thursday evenings from 5:30- 8:30 p.m. March 25th - June 3rd at the State Fund building; 1275 Market Street, San Francisco, CA 94103.

Registration deadline to sign up is Monday, March 22, 2010

FBI issues a new code breaking challenge

The FBI has posted its annual code-breaking challenge on its Web site; this is the longest code-breaking challenge to date; the FBI says that the code-breaking task is similar to work being done in its labs

The agency explains that unraveling the code and reveal its secret message is similar to the work of "cryptanalysts" being done in the FBI Laboratory. In the latest quiz, the agency switched gears a bit, using pictogram symbols based on Native American motifs. With more than fifty words to decipher, it is the FBI's longest code-breaking challenge so far.  MORE INFO

U.S. Cyber Challenge
May 28th -- Network Penetration Testing

This is a one-day practical course on the use of basic network security tools. Participants will learn how to use Nmap and Wireshark, when and when not to use them, what the alternatives are, what the legal issues are, and more. This hands-on course will allow time for learning how to use Nmap and Wireshark. Gaming will also be used as an enhancement to learning. Software, lab exercises and data will be provided for additional study/use after class.

May 29 -- Web Application Testing

This 1-day course will cover all of the most common security weaknesses found in web applications. Students will learn how to look at their websites from a hacker's point of view, and will learn best practices for finding and resolving existing security vulnerabilities and building new web applications in a secure manner. The course will contain unique and fun hands-on exercises to help students gain a fuller understanding of the concepts presented.

COST:
ISACA Members $75 per day ($150 both days)
Non-Members $100 per day ($200 both days)
